Editorial Policy
How GuideTutor tutorials are researched, written, reviewed and kept up to date.
Purpose and scope
Our tutorials teach beginners and everyday users how to use technology. We publish a manageable library of thorough tutorials rather than many thin pages, and each one covers a single task from what you need before you start to what to do if it doesn’t work.
Who writes the tutorials
Tutorials are published under the byline “GuideTutor Editorial Team”. We don’t list individual author profiles or claim professional certifications.
Use of AI tools
We use AI writing tools to help outline and draft tutorials. AI output is never published unreviewed. Every tutorial is checked by a person for accuracy, safety and clarity against the official documentation from the relevant software or device maker. Anything that can’t be supported is removed or phrased generally with a pointer to that documentation.
Accuracy and safety standards
- No invented menus or features: we only name menus and settings that are documented by the operating system or device maker, and we say when steps differ between Windows 10 and Windows 11, macOS versions, or phone and printer models.
- Official sources for downloads: we only point to Windows Update, the Microsoft Store, the Mac App Store, app stores on phones, and the official websites of software and device makers. We never recommend unofficial driver sites, “driver updater” or “PC cleaner” utilities, or cracked software.
- No weakening of security: we never tell readers to switch off antivirus protection, firewalls, updates or account protections, and we warn about tech-support scams.
- No hardware disassembly or electrical repair: we don’t describe opening laptops or printers beyond user access doors, or working on batteries, chargers or power supplies.
- No invented specifics: we don’t make up error-code meanings, model-specific procedures, prices, statistics or compatibility.
- Honest limits: no guaranteed fixes; every tutorial explains what to do if the steps don’t work.
Sources
We rely on official documentation from operating-system makers (Microsoft, Apple, Google), device makers’ support sites and standards bodies such as the Wi-Fi Alliance. Each tutorial lists the relevant pages under “Official documentation”. Linking to a company’s help page does not mean that company endorses GuideTutor.
Independence
No company pays to appear in or shape our tutorials. The site does not currently carry advertising or affiliate links. If that changes, commercial content will be clearly labeled and kept separate from editorial decisions.
Reviews and corrections
Each tutorial shows when it was published and when it was last reviewed. We revisit tutorials when operating systems or devices change. If something doesn’t match what you see or looks wrong, email support@guidetutor.com with the page address, and we will check and correct it.
